Lula Activity and Plans

What's happenig:

Christmas in the Park, December 5th, 2015. This is Lula's largest event with thousands of spectators. Festival starts at 4pm with Christmas hymns and music by individuals and local churches. Local businesses give back to the community for the town's support during the year. Parade starts at 6pm with Santa Claus arriving in Lula. After the parade Santa will stay and see the children in Santa's Workshop in the newly renovated Poole Building next to the Park. All Children are encouraged to talk to Santa.  Join the 770-869-3801 and let them know you will join Santa in the parade and 706-677-2016 if you would like to have a free table in the Park and give something back to our community.

Christmas Parade recommendations:
Open to any Holiday Cheer!
Parade line up begins at 5pm, follow the signs on Main Street to line up area. North of the city.
The parade starts at 6pm at night. Lights and decorations are requested but not required.
Holiday music is encouraged, but keep the recommended distance from other floats, bands, chorus groups playing other music.
Because the parade takes place after sunset, we ask that you not throw candy from the floats; however walkers can hand out candy and other items to the children. This is a safety issue, we want to avoid kids running into the street.
Please do not dress up as Santa, it will confuse the children. Santa will arrive at the end of the parade.
Please avoid gaps in the parade. Keep the parade moving and stay as close as possible to the float ahead of you.

Christmas Time in Lula and the City will recognize twinkling lights and imaginative ideas. There will be five winners selected for this very special recognition so put your thinking caps and have a very merry time creating festive ideas to show your holiday spirit to friends and neighbors.. This year "Area Businesses" are encouraged to participate.

Street Scape 2 is scheduled to be completed in Janusary 2016. This section of our improvement plan starts at Veteran's Park and extends pass City Hall. This includes new sidewalks and a few new parking spaces.

Public Restrooms near completion. Will be open in time for Christmas in the Park. This is located in the rear of the newly renovated Poole Building next to Veteran's Park.

Street Scape 3 is complete. This improvement includes new Main Street sidewalks and correcting the drainage problems. Carter Alley has been paved.  This is the area south of Athens Street to the Laundromat. Parallel parking has been provided in front of the buildings next to the sidewalks. Street Scape 1 was the completion of Veteran's Park and sidewalk  construction at the corner of Athens Street and Main Street

Rafe Banks Park has been leased from Hall County for fifty years. Hall County closed the park in a budget cut. Our City has taken control of the Park and is making improvements. The parking lot has been resurfaced and a walking trail is being constructed.
Kubota is building a new manufacturing plant in the industrial park south of town. They plan to hire up to 650 employees. This will have a positive effect on our community.  Lanier Tech has purchased land at the corner of Howard Street and I365 for their new campus.  Other developments in t
he same area are planned and will be announced in the near future . All of this development  has a very positive effect on Lula.

Insulation Company is finishing a 10,000 square foot expansion in their building.

Sewage and water is being investigated along GA-365 in the Lula area. The City would like to see development in this area.

A number of older homes are now being upgraded and remodeled. Our city is coming alive!

What's planned

The City is applying for a grant to build a nature trail and classroom in Rafe Banks Park.

Finish Street Scape 2, 4. 5. 6. and 7. Street Scape 2 has been funded  by SPLOSH   This project provides $250K for the construction of sidewalks and improvements including street lights and planters from Veteran's Park to City Hall.

Street Scape 4 thru 7 are hoped to be funded by the SPLOST tax. Because of the SPLOST tax the City has been able to operate without City Taxes.
Street scape 4 Finish sidewalks and improvements from City Hall to School.
Street Scape 5 Sidewalks and improvements from Main Street across railroad to our Depot.
Street scape 6 Sidewalks and improvements from Depot to Rafe Banks Park.
Street scape 7 Sidewalks and improvements along Maiden Lane to new entrance to Park.
