Lula Activity and Plans
Street Scape 3 is completing. This improvement includes new Main Street sidewalks and correcting the drainage problems. This is the area south of Athens Street to the Laundromat. Parallel parking will be provided in front of the buildings next to the sidewalks.
Rafe Banks Park has been leased from Hall County for fifty years. Hall County closed the park in a budget cut. Our City has taken control of the Park and is making improvements. The parking lot has been resurfaced and a walking trail is being constructed.
Street Scape 1 was the completion of Veteran's Park and sidewalk construction at the corner of Athens Street and Main Street
Our infamous dead tree is gone. Finally the City received permission from Norfolk Southern to remove the tree from railroad property. The city parking lot on Main Street has been paved.
New businesses have come to town. 2 Graphics has moved into the newly renovated Adams Building. The Rusty Peacock has opened its doors on GA-365 between Ace Hardware and GA-52. The Logistics Company is expanding and looks to hire up to 100 new employees.
The Poole Building next to Veteran's Park is being renovated. The City is going to build public restrooms in the rear of the building with access to the park. The newly renovated building is for rent.
Kubota is building a new manufacturing plant in the industrial park south of town. They plan to hire up to 650 employees. This will have a positive effect on our community. Other developments in the same area are planned and will be announced in the near future .
Insulation Company is finishing a 10,000 square foot expansion in their building.
Sewage and water are now available along GA-365 in the Lula area. The City would like to see development in this area.
A number of older homes are now being upgraded and remodeled. Our city is coming alive!
We are taking bids to sandblast and repaint the caboose at the Depot.
The City is applying for a grant to build a nature trail and classroom in Rafe Banks Park.
Finish Street Scape 2, 4. 5. 6. and 7. Street Scape 2 has been funded by SPLOSH but the funds have not been released. We hope funds will be available in 2015. This project provides $250K for the construction of sidewalks and improvements including street lights and planters from Veteran's Park to City Hall.
Street Scape 4 thru 7 are hoped to be funded by the SPLOST tax. Because of the SPLOST tax the City has been able to operate without City Taxes. SPLOST is coming up for a vote. Please vote YES!
Street scape 4 Finish sidewalks and improvements from City Hall to School.
Street Scape 5 Sidewalks and improvements from Main Street across railroad to our Depot.
Street scape 6 Sidewalks and improvements from Depot to Rafe Banks Park.
Street scape 7 Sidewalks and improvements along Maiden Lane to new entrance to Park.
Provided SPLOST is approved by the voters, Lula would anticipate revenues of almost two million dollars. These funds would be used for:
Roads, streets and trails $600,000;
Water and sewer infrastructure $1,000,000;
Park and street scape $300,000.
